Employees connecting with one another

As team leaders, the most powerful tool at our disposal is the ability to bring people together. One of the most effective ways to build lasting engagement is simple: help your people connect with one another.

When we feel supported by our teammates and build real relationships across departments, we feel a stronger sense of belonging. It’s human nature! We’re more likely to collaborate, share ideas, and celebrate wins together. That sense of community builds trust and motivation - two key drivers of engagement.

When we feel supported and included, we want to show up with more energy, more enthusiasm, and a greater commitment to the team. Gallup research shows that these factors directly lead to improved outcomes in retention, absenteeism, productivity, and ultimately, profitability.

Leaders can make this happen by consistently creating opportunities for connection. Teambuilding activities, cross-functional projects, team celebrations, and informal gatherings all help people feel more connected. These events don’t need to be big, expensive or extravagant - what matters is that get-togethers happen regularly and genuinely.

A connected environment is a motivated environment, and motivated teams engage themselves. When we are energized by not just where they work but who we work with, engagement becomes natural and sustainable.
